A brief history and transition to Lincoln College of New England

History of Briarwood College

From the founding of the Briarwood Secretarial School in Bristol, CT in 1966, later to be named the Briarwood School for Women, to the enactment of legislation by the Connecticut General Assembly and signed by Governor Ella Grasso in 1979 establishing Briarwood College, over 5000 graduates have earned the right to be named an alumna or alumnus. Equipped with the knowledge and expertise gained from their educational and personal experiences while students, our alumni continue to enhance their careers and contribute to their communities wherever they reside: in Connecticut, in other states, and in some cases, other regions of the world.

Briarwood College becomes Lincoln College of New England

In 2010, Briarwood College in Southington, CT became the Southington branch campus of Lincoln College of New England and maintains many of the same traditions.   "We are very pleased to welcome Briarwood to the Lincoln family of schools," said Dave Carney, Chairman and CEO of Lincoln. "Briarwood supports our strategy by offering additional degree programs which will broaden our addressable market, expanding our offering of high-end healthcare programs such as dental hygiene and nuclear medicine and strengthening our online initiative with the addition of regionally accredited programs. Furthermore, with the addition of more bachelor's degree programs, Briarwood will support our "Education for Life" mission whereby students who have earned their diploma or associate's degree from Lincoln can return to further advance their career with a bachelor's degree."

We invite you to become part of our tradition by becoming a new student at our Connecticut college!
