Meet our Distinguished Members of Lincoln College of New England's Board of Trustees:


Dr. Gary R. Carlson is an academic professional for academic services at both the K-12 and Higher Education levels. He received his ED.D. from the University of Nebraska in Administration, Curriculum and Instruction referred to as ACI. In 2010 Dr. Carlson created gCarlson Inc. with services for colleges across the United States of America for faculty performance, student success, student attendance and student retention. Dr. Carlson’s previous experience was the Chief Academic Officer for ITT Technical Institutes. His role was the oversight of 127 colleges in academic operations, curriculum development and implementation of new programs. He has been active in the education sector since 1969. During these 45 years he has had a vast number of experiences which include: High School teacher, Special Education Teacher, counselor, coach, Director of Special Education (Omaha Nebraska School District), Director of Special Education (Loess Hills Area Education Agency Iowa), President for Children’s Square U.SA., president for Lincoln School of Commerce (Lincoln Nebraska)

Dr. Carlson has served on several boards including: School Boards, Foundation Boards, Charter School Boards and the National Accreditation Commission in Washington D.C.


Dr. John King is a seasoned professional dedicated to providing strategic services for organizations seeking improved operational effectiveness and growth through change or strategic direction. Dr. King can be best described as an educator, entrepreneur, futurist, innovator, marketer, strategist and leader.

Throughout his career, John has been focused on bringing innovation and forward thinking to the organizations and institutions with which he has been associated, most recently as Senior Vice President and Chief Academic Officer at Lincoln Educational Services.

Dr. King has held numerous Chief Academic, administrative and teaching positions within both the public and private sector. His career also includes positions in marketing, communications and advertising. Dr. King also operated his own consulting business for ten years.  He has also served on the boards of numerous colleges, non-profit organizations and civic organizations.

John earned a BA in Economics at St. Bernard College, a Masters in Education from the University of Minnesota and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of St. Thomas.


Dr. Adams is the Provost for Charter Oak State College in New Britain, CT.  Her previous administrative experience includes:  Dean of Dexter Hanley College at the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania, Interim Dean and Assistant Dean of the College for Continuing Education at Drake University in Iowa, Consultant in Adult Education for the State Department of Education in Iowa, Associate Head of Adult Education for Kirkwood Community College in Iowa, and Coordinator/Instructor for the Adult Leaning Center in Norfolk, Virginia.  She held the rank of Associate Professor at the University of Scranton in the Education Department and Assistant Professor in the College of Education at Drake University. 

Dr. Adams holds a Ph.D. in Professional Studies with an emphasis in adult and vocational education from Iowa State University, a Master’s Degree in Education with an emphasis in adult and community college education from the University of Iowa, and she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education/English from the University of Northern Iowa.  Her areas of expertise include non-traditional education for adults, online learning, and assessment.


Thomas O’Brien is affiliated with Carriage Services, a leading provider of funeral and cemetery services and products. He currently serves as Chairman of the Bristol Burlington Health District, a member of the Bristol Board of Education and as a Director of New England Bank. Upon graduation from Boston College Mr. O’Brien worked for the Exxon Corporation for 10 years holding various financial positions in the United States and Europe.
